Babies, Babies, Babies

So, I'm sitting home with nothing else to do and I figured, I should write on my blog. However, nothing recently has happened to me that I feel compelled to write about on my blog. So here's a shout out to my job. Probably the second best job in the world.
fig. 1.1

Neonatology Associates Hearing Screener

I didn't actually take this picture so Shelley, if you see this, I'm not breaking privacy rules of a patient I tested. Although some other guy did...

Anyway, if you look at figure 1.1 over to the right, this is exactly what I do weekday in and out.

This figure is misleading because the screener should have swaddled the baby first, so this isn't a perfect example.

The point is, I love my job and I love saying I love my job. Think about it, how many people can really tell someone in all honesty that they love their job. Don't get me wrong, it's not the perfect job because not all the babies want to sit still or lay in their bassinets. So here are the pros and cons.

The Pros

1. I get to work with newborn babies all the time and they sure are precious.
2. My job is really quite
simple, I just hook up the machine and let it do it's job while I finish up paperwork.
3. I really love the hospital I work at. Although Banner Baywood is a bit of an older hospital and doesn't have the new hospital smell like Gateway, the nurses really are great up in the L&D unit.
4. I don't have a set schedule and after I'm done, I'm done.
5. When the babies are upset because they don't like the feel of cold EKG jelly on their skin, I get to interact with them.
6. It requires little or no interaction with co-employees! No conflict resolution problems!

The Cons

1. Sometimes the baby just doesn't want to sit still or be quiet and although I may feel like throwing my pen across the room, I don't. Partially because that would be a hazard for the baby and it wont help.
2. Sometimes the parents can be overly-protective. Who can blame them? I'm taking the new love of their life away. Don't worry, I'm equipped with a pink badge...

And thats what I do day in and day out. Okay to it's only four days a week but still... basically I work the most of the EV hospitals. So there.

Sounds like fun! You're hilarious (the part about wanting to throw your pen across the room--I can totally see you doing that). I love your blog.

Maybe you'll get to screen my next beh-beh? Eh?
